What is RAM+?


You have several SD cards and other memory cards in your phone. However, your phone does not have an SD card slot and so it cannot read or write to them. What are you left with? ROM. Reebok was once faced with the same predicament. At that time, it was impossible to increase the storage of its running shoes and thus, had to find a creative solution to get rid of the increasing data volume. So, it invented the chip that compresses all of the data stored in the memory cards into a small area of the shoe, thereby saving storage space without using any additional power. Unfortunately, it was not adopted by the industry at large.



How does RAM+ work?


1. OPPO's RAM+ is divided into two different sections. The first is a second ROM that contains data that can be accessed and read by the processor without being deleted, and the second is a special section (also called 1st-class sub-system, or codename: Smart Storage) that stores data that is vital to the phone's functions. By using this technology, OPPO is able to install RAM on the phone's Flash memory, which gives it a free space of 512GB in the phone. 2. RAM+ doesn't decrease the overall size of the phone, and it can even work with a limited amount of Flash memory. So if a user has 512GB on their phone, and another owner of the phone visits to buy it, the RAM+ on the other phone won't cause the phone's memory to be filled up with unwanted data.

What's the significance?


Recently, IKEA entered the UAE market to raise the bar for budget-friendly furniture and to make home décor more accessible to all. It was my first time buying furniture online and I was skeptical of the RAM-based storage. Considering that IKEA advertised "EVERYTHING FITS" and their unboxing video was emotional, I wasn't sure how practical the furniture really was. The mattress could take advantage of the storage space, without me having to break it down and create another storage space for all my bedroom stuff.
